Lore Ipsum: Hair of Immortality
Hello! Today’s card follows the myth of one fabulous individual.
As always, this myth was recently recounted in vlog form by Dael Kingsmill, which i highly recommend you watch before you proceed to the card. I won’t be covering the whole myth in detail, only the aspects my cards drew from, and she tells it far better than i ever could.
Nisos, king of Megara, was known to have a lock of purple hair that made him impervious to harm. At one point Megara was being attacked by Minos, king of Crete, over the death of his son. Scylla, daughter of Nisos, somehow fell in love with Minos from a distance and plotted to help him take the kingdom. She snuck into her father’s chambers at night and snipped off his purple hair, rendering him mortal again. Minos took the kingdom with ease but couldn’t bring himself to trust Scylla after she betrayed her father, so he just ditched her (or, alternatively, tied her to the front of his ship).
This is a very straightforward card that follows the moral of the story: if you have fancy hair, wear headgear at all times. The “beginning of the next upkeep” template avoids the creature being destroyed with the enchantment if it has lethal damage on it, as that would defeat the whole purpose.
Until next time!
